Groote Keeten, localité des Pays-Bas
Groote Keeten is a small seaside settlement in Schagen located between sandy beaches and dunes in the northern Netherlands. The village sits on land that was once part of a larger island, now separated by natural dike systems and characterized by wide shorelines backed by rolling dunes.
The settlement was originally called Dubbelduijn and developed on the remains of an ancient island. Around 1600 residents built a protective dike against flooding, which gave the area new importance for farming and land management.
The village sits directly adjacent to a wide, flat beach with good conditions for walking and activities. Everything is within walking distance as the area is small and manageable, with lodging, dining, and shops located close together.
Nearby lies the Nollen van Abbestede area, a stretch of undulating dune land surrounded by open fields that stands apart from the surrounding flatlands. This unusual patchwork of rolling terrain and farmland makes walking and cycling routes there particularly noteworthy for visitors.
