De Hoop, Stellingmill in Wolphaartsdijk, Netherlands.
De Hoop is a stellingmill located on Molendijk in Wolphaartsdijk, featuring a felt-covered roof and measuring about 22 meters across. The structure operates as an active grain processing facility equipped with blue and artificial grinding stones and modern grain transport systems.
The mill was built in 1808 as a ground sailer and then elevated around 1894 following disputes over wind rights and forest clearing. This raising allowed it to access better wind conditions for its operations.
The mill remains actively involved in grain milling, and its presence reflects the traditional agricultural practices that have shaped the Zeeland landscape for generations.
The mill is located at Molendijk 26 and can be easily spotted from the street in Wolphaartsdijk. Visitors should note that this is an active working facility, so viewings should be arranged at appropriate times to avoid interrupting operations.
After a fire in 1993, the mill was reconstructed with its cap replaced and the body raised an additional 70 centimeters (28 inches). This rebuilding demonstrates the commitment to keeping this working heritage functional.
