Wegdam

Wegdam is a manor estate in Kerspel Goor featuring multiple brick structures built between 1757 and 1758. The main building displays coats of arms above its entrance, and the structures are arranged in the traditional pattern of a Dutch country residence.

The site began as a farm around 1400 and remained under Van Coeverden family control for several centuries. The stone buildings visible today were constructed in the 18th century by later heirs of that noble line.

The estate displays classic Dutch architectural planning with residential spaces and formal gardens arranged in harmony. Visitors can observe how the spatial layout reflected the daily life and social standing of its former residents.

Visiting requires advance arrangement as the estate remains in private hands and operates under specific visiting restrictions. It is wise to inquire beforehand and coordinate access before planning a visit.

The property gained an unexpected connection to the neighboring Weldam estate through inheritance when Maria Cornelia van Heeckeren van Wassenaer acquired both in 1897. This union of two country houses under a single owner made them a notable regional holding.
