Oorsprongpark, Public park in Buiten Wittevrouwen neighborhood, Utrecht, Netherlands
Oorsprongpark is a green space in Utrecht that stretches alongside the Biltsche Grift waterway and connects different neighborhoods together. The space sits between residential areas, the university, and the city center, bordered by several transport routes and streets.
The space takes its name from an 1823 house called De Oorsprong and was designed by Utrecht garden architect Hendrik van Lunteren. It developed as part of the city's growth during the 1800s.
Ten monumental townhouses along the park's edge were designed by architect Derk Semmelink in 1886 and still define the character of the street today.
The space is easy to reach from multiple directions and offers walking paths and green areas for daily activities. Visitors can enjoy a place to stroll and spend time here, with good connections to nearby schools, shops, and residential areas.
During World War II, the German military used the corner building at Maliebaan for air force operations. This surprising chapter in the history of this peaceful space reveals the complex past of the location.
