Castricum aan Zee, hameau de la commune de Castricum
Castricum aan Zee is a beach area in Castricum, Noord-Holland, divided into two distinct sections offering different experiences. Drukke Strand has parking, restaurants, and shops nearby, while Stille Strand remains quiet and accessible only by bike or foot through the dunes.
The place takes its name from its Roman past, when the area served as a military camp. Over time it transformed from a fishing village into a modern leisure destination, particularly in recent decades as beach access and facilities were developed.
The name refers to the area's Roman heritage, though today it functions as a place where visitors shape their own experience between the busy and quiet sections of the beach. The split between Drukke Strand and Stille Strand reflects how people choose to engage with the coast.
The area is most easily reached by bike from Castricum center in around ten minutes, or by car to the paid parking lot. Entry to the nature reserve areas requires a sticker that can be obtained at the visitor center De Hoep.
The area includes the Noordhollands Duinreservaat National Park with forests, dunes, and wildlife, accessible only with a sticker that helps protect the landscape. This system limits visitor numbers and preserves the natural environment from overuse.
