Tingel Tangel, Cabaret theater in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Tingel Tangel is a cabaret theater in Amsterdam housed in a restored 1725 building on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. The space contains a small performance hall with seating for around 145 people in an intimate layout.
Sieto Hoving founded this venue in 1957 by converting several rooms of a former Amsterdam mayor's residence into a performance space. The ownership changed hands in 1989 when Paul Haenen and Dammie van Geest took over and made further transformations.
This venue became a launching pad for many Dutch cabaret performers who developed their craft in its small performance space. The shows that took place here mixed comedy with artistic expression in ways that reflected local entertainment traditions.
The venue is easy to reach on foot since it sits in the city center, and the compact seating arrangement creates closeness between performers and viewers. Visitors should know that space fills quickly due to limited capacity.
The venue produced notable recordings such as Hausse Hausse Hoera in 1961 and Zotten en Wijzen in 1967 that showed its influence on Dutch entertainment. These recordings captured an important period in how cabaret developed in the country.
