Basilica of Saints Plechelm Wiro-and-Otger

The Basilica of Saints Plechelm, Wiro and Otger is a minor basilica standing on a hilltop in Sint Odiliënberg, designed by architect Pierre Cuypers. The building displays 19th-century architectural elements and commands views across the surrounding landscape from its elevated position.

Three Anglo-Saxon missionaries founded a monastery on Sint-Petrusberg in the 8th century, establishing the religious roots of this hilltop community. The church was later rebuilt and renovated in the 19th century under architect Cuypers.

The basilica serves as a gathering place where the local community celebrates religious traditions and honors three missionaries from early medieval times. The name and layout reflect how these figures remain woven into the identity of this hilltop village.
