The Sint Elisabeth Gesticht features four wings surrounding a rectangular courtyard, with brown-red brick facades and natural stone ornamentations throughout the structure.
The building opened in 1889 under architect Adrianus Bleijs to provide care for invalid and incurably ill former orphans from the Roman Catholic Maagdenhuis.
The structure incorporates a neo-Byzantine chapel with ribbed vaults, pillars, and non-figurative decorations, reflecting the religious aspect of patient care.
The building design prioritizes patient comfort through optimized ventilation and natural light, with courtyards adjacent to patient rooms and intersecting halls.
The facility transformed from a medical institution to Hotel Arena, maintaining its architectural heritage while adapting to modern hospitality functions.
