NS-werkplaats Blerick

The NS-werkplaats Blerick is a single-story railway workshop built from solid brick with distinctive shed roofs and tall arched windows. Cast iron columns support the structure throughout, and wooden gates mark the entrances along its facades.

The workshop was established in 1889 to maintain and repair freight rolling stock across southern Netherlands. After an expansion in 1920, it continued operations until closing in 1969.

The building stands as a tangible record of railway workers' daily operations from the industrial era. Visitors can sense how the space was organized around the practical needs of maintaining and repairing trains.

The site sits conveniently positioned between the Nijmegen-Venlo and Eindhoven-Venlo railway lines, reflecting its original strategic location. Today it functions as an exhibition space with ample room to display collections from the railway museum.

The facade displays a striking pattern of red and yellow brickwork that creates a visual rhythm across its surface. This crafted detail was executed with care despite the building's industrial purpose.
