Theater Geert Teis

Theater Geert Teis is a performance venue in Stadskanaal with two halls of different sizes. The main hall seats approximately 600 people, while the smaller hall accommodates around 200 spectators.

The building opened in 1967 after more than a decade of planning and preparation. It underwent significant interior renovation in 1997, with the original exterior walls preserved during this modernization.

The venue hosts a wide range of performing arts, from theatrical plays and musicals to dance and cabaret acts that reflect the interests of the local community. Performances here serve as a gathering place where residents experience entertainment together throughout the year.

The theater is named after Gerhard Willem Spitzen, a writer from Groningen who composed the regional anthem and wrote numerous theatrical works in the local dialect. His literary contributions shaped the cultural voice of this region.
