Nationaal Militair Museum, Military museum in Soesterberg, Netherlands
The Nationaal Militair Museum is a military museum in Soesterberg, Netherlands, housed in a modern building that presents vehicles, aircraft, weapons, and uniforms from different eras. The exhibition floor spans multiple levels and offers space for large machines as well as smaller personal items from soldiers' daily lives.
The facility opened in December 2014 and brought together collections from two older institutions, the Army Museum in Delft and the Military Aviation Museum in Soesterberg. The merger created a central location where the entire military history of the country could be presented under one roof.
The name reflects its purpose to preserve and present the military heritage of the Netherlands, showing visitors how armed forces were equipped and organized over time. Many objects on display were donated by veterans or gathered from former barracks and airfields, giving the collection a personal connection.
The entrance is located near the former airfield and is easily reached by car or bus, with parking available on site. The building is designed for accessibility, allowing wheelchair users to reach all areas without difficulty.
Several fighter jets and helicopters hang from the ceiling and float above visitors, offering an unusual viewing angle of the machines. This arrangement shows the evolution of aviation technology from a perspective otherwise known only from the cockpit.
