Windlust, Burum

The Windlust mill features eight sides with four sails spanning 22 meters, incorporating a cast iron windshaft manufactured by the Nijmeegsche IJzergieterij.

Following a fire in 2012 that destroyed the original structure, the current Windlust mill was reconstructed in 2014, maintaining traditional Dutch milling architecture.

The mill continues to demonstrate the Netherlands' agricultural heritage through its grain-grinding mechanisms, featuring two pairs of French Burr millstones for pearl barley production.

Located at 54 Herestraat in Burum, the mill stands as part of the Noardeast-Fryslân municipality, accessible via local transportation networks.

The mill's operational system combines historical French millstones with modern engineering elements, demonstrating the evolution of milling technology through generations.
