Arwerd, Rural hamlet in Delfzijl, Netherlands
Arwerd is a small hamlet with scattered farmhouses and residential buildings set among agricultural fields. The settlement is connected by narrow country roads and sits near the Godlinzermaar waterway.
The settlement developed from an oval-shaped dwelling mound that once held at least seven farms belonging to Werden Abbey. This mound remains a defining feature of the landscape today.
The settlement reflects traditional farming ways that shaped the Groningen region for centuries. You can see how people use the land around here much like their ancestors did, with fields and farm buildings forming the core of daily life.
You can reach the hamlet by car from Delfzijl using the connecting country roads, and most services are available in the nearby town center. The flat terrain makes navigation simple, and walking trails are accessible throughout the year.
The Wad- and Wierdenpad walking trail passes through the area and reveals the steep edge of the original dwelling mound when approached from Nijenklooster. This path makes visible what might otherwise blend into the flat surroundings.
