Sexmuseum Amsterdam

Sexmuseum Amsterdam is an erotic museum in Amsterdam-Centrum that explores human sexuality through visual and physical collections spanning different eras and cultures. The exhibits include photographs, paintings, sculptures, audio recordings and everyday objects displayed across several rooms on multiple floors.

The museum opened its doors in March 1985 and was at that time one of the first institutions of its kind in Europe. Over the decades, the collection has expanded and attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world.

The exhibition spaces present artifacts and artworks depicting sexual practices from ancient civilizations including Cleopatra's era and the Roman Empire.

The entrance sits just a few steps from Amsterdam Central Station on Damrak street, making it easy to reach on foot. The building is open daily from morning until late evening and allows visitors to explore the exhibition at their own pace.

A collection of life-size wax figures shows historical personalities in unexpected poses and scenes. Individual exhibition rooms carry the names of figures like Mata Hari or Oscar Wilde, who were known for their public lives.
