Zilverberg, Student housing complex in Amsterdam-Noord, Netherlands

Zilverberg was a residential complex with 646 housing units spread across ten floors in Amsterdam-Noord. The building offered small single rooms with private bathrooms alongside shared kitchens and common spaces on each level.

The building was constructed between 1968 and 1970 and marked the first large-scale student housing project in the Netherlands. Its design by architect Charles van Heelsbergen established a new approach to housing students across the country.

The building served as a social meeting point where students gathered and developed a sense of community. It represented a shift toward housing young people together in large, organized spaces rather than scattered across the city.

The site is located in Amsterdam-Noord and is easily accessible by public transport. Access to the rooftop provided visitors with views over the city, making it a popular gathering spot.

The building earned the nickname 'Jumping Amsterdam' during the 1980s because of its wild parties and youthful energy. This legendary era came to an end when the complex was demolished in 1990 and replaced by a senior residence in 1993.
