Post CS-gebouw, Office building on Oosterdokseiland, Netherlands
The Post CS-gebouw was a modern office building on Oosterdokseiland with a concrete and glass facade that rose approximately 50 meters high. The structure stood near Amsterdam Central Station and featured a clear geometric form that marked the island's landscape.
The building opened in 1968 following designs by architects Merkelbach and Elling and served as the main mail sorting facility for the Dutch postal service PTT. This complex shaped postal and transportation infrastructure for decades in Amsterdam.
The building later became a center where artists and cultural organizations found space to work and exhibit. This transformation brought new energy to the structure after its original postal function ended.
The building stood at Oosterdokskade 161 and offered direct access to transportation connections and modern office facilities in central Amsterdam. Visitors could reach the island easily since it was within walking distance of the station.
The building was completely demolished in 2009 to make room for new developments on the site. Today the location hosts the headquarters of Booking.com, one of the world's largest online travel platforms.
