Schouwburg De Meerse, Municipal theater in Hoofddorp, Netherlands
Schouwburg De Meerse is a performing arts venue in Hoofddorp that hosts theatrical and musical productions. The main hall, called Bouwmeesterzaal, seats more than 500 people, while the building also includes a flat-floor performance space and a theater cafe for visitors.
The theater opened in 1982 at a different location with around 100 seats before moving to its current site in the early 1990s. This move allowed for significant expansion and modernization of the facility.
The venue presents a mix of theater productions, music performances, cabaret, dance, and children's shows throughout the year. This diversity means there is something for different tastes and ages in the local community.
The venue offers wheelchair accessibility, reserved seating upon request, and free garderobe service for visitors. Nearby parking becomes free after 18:00 on Fridays, making it convenient for evening events.
In 2011, the building expanded with an additional flat-floor performance space as part of a larger cultural complex called Centrum voor de Kunsten Pier K. This expansion allowed the venue to host a wider range of artistic formats and artists.
