Boomkerk, Roman Catholic church in Bos en Lommer, Netherlands.
Boomkerk is a Roman Catholic church located at Admiraal De Ruijterweg 406 in Amsterdam, built in the early twentieth century with architectural features typical of religious buildings from that period. The structure showcases brick construction and a traditional layout common to churches of that era.
This site originated from a hidden church called 't Boompje established in 1578 as a place of refuge during times of religious persecution. The current building was constructed between 1910 and 1911 by architect Peter Bekkers to replace the earlier meeting place.
The building houses an organ built in 1774 by Johannes Petrus Hilgers, moved here from an earlier church location to preserve musical traditions. This instrument reflects how the community valued its cultural practices across different buildings and generations.
The church is open for visits every other Saturday from 2 to 4 PM and holds Sunday services at 9:30 AM. The entrance on Van Gentstraat features ramps for people with mobility needs, with a separate chapel accessible through a small side door.
The congregation was originally based on Kalverstraat, a historic street in central Amsterdam, before relocating to its current site in the Bos en Lommer neighborhood. This move allowed the community to establish itself in a growing residential area while maintaining its long-standing traditions.
