WoZoCo Osdorp, Residential building in Osdorp, Netherlands.
WoZoCo is a residential complex in Amsterdam-Osdorp containing 100 apartments with bold extensions that jut out from the main walls. These projecting sections provide extra living space while keeping the building's footprint on the ground relatively small.
The complex was built in 1997 as the first housing project by the architectural firm MVRDV. It addressed Amsterdam's need for homes suited to older residents at that time.
The building creates shared pathways and viewing areas that encourage neighbors to meet and spend time together. This design shapes how residents of different ages interact within their community.
The building sits on Reimerswaalstraat with straightforward connections to Amsterdam's public transportation system. Since it is primarily a residential complex, some areas are private and intended only for residents.
Thirteen apartments are suspended as separate boxes projecting from the main structure. This solution allowed the architects to add more homes while keeping the ground level open and usable.
