Cantonspark

Cantonspark is a botanical garden in Baarn that spans several hectares with distinct plant sections throughout the grounds. The site features a large greenhouse, covered arcades, decorative water features including a stone waterfall and ornamental bridges that connect different areas.

A merchant who made his fortune in Indonesia created this park in the early 1900s and built the large greenhouse the following year for tropical plants. The University of Utrecht later took over the grounds and operated it as a research facility for botanical study from the early 1900s onward.

The garden's layout reflects a systematic approach to plant organization that visitors can experience while walking through different zones. Each section reveals how plants are grouped and displayed to help people understand botanical diversity.

The park has several entrance points along nearby streets, allowing you to enter from different sides. Well-marked paths connect the various plant sections and architectural features, making it easy to explore the full grounds.

The greenhouse features sunken side sections that house rare tropical plant collections in specially designed spaces. These below-ground areas create ideal conditions for delicate species and represent an unusual architectural approach to plant cultivation.
