De Vuurproef, Railway simulator attraction at Het Spoorwegmuseum, Utrecht, Netherlands
De Vuurproef is a motion simulator at the Railway Museum Utrecht that takes visitors through different periods of Dutch rail history. The cabin uses movement and storytelling to create an immersive experience that feels like traveling through time on trains.
The simulator opened in 2012 and shows how railways developed in the Netherlands over time. The project was part of a larger effort to bring rail history to life in fresh and engaging ways for museum visitors.
The ride tells the story of railways in the Netherlands and how they changed the country and its people. Visitors experience different moments from this history and learn how trains shaped daily life and connected communities.
The simulator holds up to six people per ride and requires riders to be at least 12 years old. Visitors choose from three different routes, each offering different views of railway development through the centuries.
The cabin moves and shakes in ways that make the journey feel physically real while telling the rail story. The name refers to an old fire test used to measure strength, connecting the physical challenge of the ride to the historical journey.
