Groot Arsenaal

The Groot Arsenaal is a fortification in Breda, extending about 60 meters in length with two parallel gabled roofs and natural stone archways. Inside, round arches on rectangular pillars divide the space into two naves, while the western wall features a gate decorated with Doric design elements.

Built in 1771 by French architect J.C.W. Herlin, it served as a military arsenal within the Seeligkazerne complex. The structure stood between the Mark River and Haagdijk as part of the city's defensive infrastructure.

The building now houses a training center where students work in actual restaurants and kitchens, gaining real experience in hospitality work. This blend of learning and labor in a historic space keeps the site active and purposeful for the local community.
