Heel Castle

The restored limestone walls of Heel Castle extend over three floors, featuring large windows and a central tower topped with a spired roof.

Built in 1614 on medieval foundations, the castle underwent substantial modifications until 1880, incorporating architectural elements from different construction periods.

The castle maintains its status as a Rijksmonument, reflecting its importance in Dutch architectural heritage and connection to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Roermond.

Following the December 2023 fire, only the facades and first-floor walls remain standing, with restoration plans currently under development by heritage authorities.

The castle forms part of a larger development project that includes care facilities, apartments, and a future hospice in the surrounding Chateaupark area.
