Nieuwe Badkapel, Scheveningen, Protestant church in Scheveningen, Netherlands
Nieuwe Badkapel is a church in Scheveningen with two distinctive rounded brick towers and architectural details that blend rationalist and Art Nouveau styles. The building serves as a protected monument and can be recognized by its twin towers rising above the surrounding residential area.
The building was completed in 1916 following designs by architect W.Ch. Kuijper and replaced an earlier 1874 chapel that had become incompatible with municipal development plans. This transition marked the growth of Scheveningen as a modern seaside resort.
The chapel served as a spiritual hub for the seaside resort's visitors and residents in the early 1900s. Its design with rounded towers reflected the taste of a growing beach community.
The church is located in the residential Scheveningen area and easily spotted by its twin towers from the surrounding streets. Visiting should be planned around regular Sunday services to ensure access to the interior.
Inside the building stands an organ built by Van Dam & Zn in 1926 and registered in the Dutch National Organ Registry. This instrument represents a notable example of traditional Dutch organ craftsmanship that remains functional today.
