Huis Landfort, Megchelen, National heritage house in Megchelen, Netherlands
Huis Landfort is a mansion with roughly 50 hectares of grounds near the Oude IJssel river. The house contains period rooms, a designed park with waterways, and a vegetable garden.
The property first became known as Lanck Voort in 1434 when acquired by Derick Van Bronckhorst and Batenburg. In the nineteenth century, the Luyken family reshaped the estate with improvements to the house and grounds.
The Luyken family shaped the house during the 19th century, building a collection of medical and botanical books that reflected their interest in science and gardening. This scholarly focus remains visible in the rooms and grounds today.
The estate opens to visitors on Fridays and Saturdays from April through October. Tours can be arranged in advance through the Erfgoed Landfort foundation.
The landscape park was designed by Jan David Zocher Jr. and features winding paths, canals, and an Oriental dovecote among its garden ornaments. This unusual structure adds an unexpected exotic touch to the grounds.
