Villa Canne, building in Maastricht, Netherlands
Villa Canne is a substantial private residence in Maastricht built in the early 20th century with brick and decorative details throughout. The structure features two main floors, a basement, an attic, a side extension, and a sloped roof with purple tiles and dormer windows with rounded tops.
The house was built in the mid-1800s for wealthy industrialist Petrus Regout and underwent several modifications over time. Between 1879 and the 1920s, additions including a new kitchen, a redesign by architect Sandhövel, and roof renewal were completed.
Villa Canne was named after Petrus Regout, the wealthy businessman who commissioned it as a private residence for his family. The house and its surrounding park reflect how prosperous residents of that era shaped their living spaces to blend with the natural landscape.
The building is protected as a Rijksmonument and is not open as a public residence, but can be admired from outside and through the surrounding park. Visitors can walk the winding paths, observe mature trees, and enjoy the quiet green setting near the Jeker river.
The interior retains original features including marble fireplaces, parquet floors, and plaster moldings that display the craftsmanship of its era. The decorative iron greenhouses and wrought iron railings that once adorned the gardens have vanished, serving as reminders of how historic properties transform over time.
