Vreugd en Rust

Vreugd en Rust is a monumental villa in Voorburg featuring a rectangular two-story structure with a white plaster facade and hardstone base. A wooden balustrade runs along the straight front, defining the classical proportions of the building.

The estate started as a farm in 1658 and was transformed into a manor house in 1751. A major renovation in 1852 added two rectangular wings that expanded the original structure.

The interior displays an 18th-century Rococo staircase with decorative stucco work and multiple Empire style ceilings from the 19th century. These ornamental details shape the character of the rooms today and reflect different periods of artistic design.

The former villa now operates as Central Park hotel-restaurant, with surrounding grounds serving as a public park featuring animal enclosures. Visitors can explore the landscaped property and view the classical architecture animal shelters throughout the grounds.
