Sint-Odulphuskerk, Gothic church in Best, Netherlands.
Sint-Odulphuskerk is a five-aisled church building in Best with a partially embedded western tower and transepts featuring flat closures. The side choirs end in apse formations, giving the overall structure a complex and carefully designed architectural layout.
The building was designed by architect Carl Weber and replaced an earlier 15th-century stone structure. Its consecration by Bishop Godschalk in 1882 marked the completion of this important religious edifice for the community of Best.
The church serves the people of Best as a place for regular worship and serves as a gathering point for community events throughout the year. Today it hosts family celebrations and local meetings that shape the religious and social life of the area.
The church square shows the outlines of medieval foundations from the earlier structure marked in the ground for visitors to observe. A statue of Saint Odulphus that stands over a century old is also visible on the square, adding to the historical sense of the place.
The interior combines original Roman floor tiles with exposed river pebbles and flint fragments set in irregular patterns throughout. This blend of different materials shows the layered construction history that spans multiple periods.
