Villa Russenduin

Villa Russenduin is a brick building featuring an observation tower, multiple sections spanning two levels, and slate-covered roofs in various styles including flat, hipped, and gabled designs. The building contains five bathrooms, a heated swimming pool, a gymnasium, and several rooms now functioning as visitor accommodations.

The building was constructed between 1916 and 1917 by architects Gebroeders Van Gendt as a summer residence for merchant August Janssen, who died just weeks after its completion. The villa emerged during a period of significant change in Dutch architecture and society.

The stained glass windows depict scenes from the 1799 battle between Russian and French forces in the surrounding dunes. These artworks tell the story of events that shaped the region's past.

The building today functions as a hotel with various guest amenities including a heated swimming pool and fitness facilities. The rooms are arranged to let visitors experience the historical atmosphere while enjoying modern comfort.

The interior preserves original details such as light green entrance tiles and intricate wooden carvings. The windows showcase work by Willem Bogtman, a notable artist known for decorative glasswork of that era.
