Generaal Snijderskazerne, Military barracks in Nijmegen, Netherlands.
Generaal Snijderskazerne is a former military barracks in Nijmegen with a 130-meter-long front facade made of red brick. The structure features a three-story central section flanked by two-story corner pavilions.
Construction began in 1906 as a military facility, and the building was renamed after a prominent military commander in 1934. It operated as an active barracks for many decades before its later transformation.
Carved stone coats of arms from Gelderland and Nijmegen appear on the structure, along with inscriptions GELRIA and NOVIOMAGUM at the entrance. These elements reflect the building's connection to local identity and are visible as you approach.
The former military complex now contains 57 residential apartments while maintaining its original protective fencing around the grounds. The exterior can be viewed from public areas, though access inside is private.
The main entrance displays a sculptured head of Mars above a double round-arched doorway. A carved stone lion standing over 3 meters (10 feet) tall crowns the center gable, making it the structure's most striking decorative element.
