Juliana-Oord, Architectural monument in Laren, Netherlands.
Juliana-Oord is a single-story complex with a rectangular floor plan and hipped roof covered in red Dutch tiles. The building at Leemzeulder 35 features yellow brick facades and regularly spaced window rows.
The complex opened in 1930 as a tuberculosis sanatorium designed by architect A.P. van den Brink. Founder Dr. M.H.J.C. Thomassen established it as a specialized care facility for lung patients.
The facades display handcrafted ceramic ridge pots and symmetrically arranged windows that reflect the architectural style of the interwar years. These design choices remain visible throughout the complex today.
The site is accessible via a solid pathway with good views of all facade sides. Visitors should note that this is an active healthcare facility where access to certain areas may be restricted.
The south-facing facade contains twelve window sections, with ten originally designed to allow hospital beds to roll outside. These windows enabled patients to receive sunbathing treatment directly beneath the open sky.
