H.H. Martelaren van Gorcum, Brielle

H.H. Martelaren van Gorcum is a red brick church with pointed-arch windows, decorated friezes, and multiple roofs topped with Dutch tiles. The 1930s building replaced an earlier wooden chapel that stood on this site.

The building was constructed between 1929 and 1931 and marks a site rooted in the region's past. In 1572, during religious conflicts, 23 Catholic priests were executed at this location.

The name refers to 23 Catholic clergy members honored here whose memory shapes the space since its completion. Visitors encounter statues and a bronze shrine dedicated to these figures, making the site a place of devotion.

The site is typically open from Tuesday to Sunday between 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM during the pilgrimage season. It helps to check visiting hours ahead of time since they vary with the season.

During the pilgrimage in July, processions and ceremonies draw hundreds of visitors from across the region. This yearly gathering brings the site to life and shows its current role as a center of faith.
