Heilig Hartklooster, Monastery and Rijksmonument complex in Steyl, Netherlands.
The Heilig Hartklooster is a monastery building with multiple wings spanning four floors and a central chapel at its core. The structure connects various functional areas through corridors and houses side chapels, a refectory, library, and museum spaces.
The building was completed in 1904 as the motherhouse for the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, established by Arnold Janssen. This foundation significantly strengthened missionary work in the Steyl region.
The monastery serves as a significant center for Catholic missionary work and demonstrates the connection to the Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit community. Visitors can see spaces designed for prayer and communal life, reflecting the religious commitment of this religious order to this day.
The monastery is accessible through interconnected corridors that lead to various areas, allowing visitors to explore the complex at their own pace. Plan enough time to visit the chapels, museum spaces, and other areas without rushing through the site.
The southern side displays a stone relief featuring two hands with a dove above, a symbol with deeper religious meaning. A ten-meter garden wall features a sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Christ that underscores the spiritual focus of this place.
