Ernst Casimirkazerne, Military barracks in Roermond, Netherlands.
Ernst Casimirkazerne is a former military complex in Roermond featuring brick buildings with distinctive architectural details. The ensemble includes a U-shaped gatehouse with a central entrance, steel-framed windows, and herringbone brickwork patterns, along with residential and support structures surrounding it.
The barracks was built in 1938 to house a border regiment. It later accommodated various military units until its military use ended in 1992.
The complex is named after Count Ernst Casimir and reflects his importance in local history. Visitors can see the preserved buildings and former parade ground that tell the story of the site's military past.
The site is located at Wilhelminasingel 10 and now connects to the adjacent Designer Outlet Center through a passageway. Visitors can walk through the grounds and easily navigate between the historical buildings.
Inside the gatehouse are specialized spaces such as a duty officer room and corridors with terrazzo flooring that reflect the practical side of military life. The large assembly hall with laminated beam construction is particularly noteworthy as an example of early 20th-century craftsmanship.
