De Voorst, Architectural ensemble in Eefde, Netherlands
De Voorst is an estate with a mansion in French-English style located in Eefde, surrounded by formal gardens and auxiliary buildings. The whole complex forms a complete composition with all its parts arranged across the property.
Arnold Joost van Keppel, who made his fortune at the court of Stadtholder William III, commissioned this estate around 1700. Following a major fire in 1943, the main building underwent complete reconstruction.
The estate earned the nickname 'Little Loo' because its building design echoes Stadtholder William III's palace, while its gardens became known as the 'Versailles of Achterhoek'. Visitors sense this refined character when walking through the grounds.
The property now serves as an event venue that welcomes only one gathering at a time, preserving its tranquil setting. Parking is available for all guests to make visits convenient.
A painter accidentally caused the devastating fire in 1943 that badly damaged the main building. The careful restoration made it closely resemble the original, even though the interior had to be built from scratch.
