Pyramid of Gulpen, Glass pyramid in Gulpen, Netherlands
The Pyramid of Gulpen is a triangular glass structure located near the N278 road in a small Dutch village. It stands adjacent to the Mosaqua swimming pool and Sophianum school in this rural area.
The building was constructed between 1991 and 1992 with financial support from several local municipalities and the province of Limburg. Its creation was part of a regional development initiative of that era.
The glass structure was initially conceived as an art exhibition space for the region, intended to display local artistic work. The building reflected the hopes of that era to transform the location into a cultural hub.
The pyramid is located at Lansraderweg 7 and can be viewed from the outside at any time without charge. The site is easy to access and the area offers other nearby attractions like the swimming pool.
The project failed economically and was sold at auction just years after opening with visitor numbers far below expectations. The final sale price fell dramatically short of the original investment cost.
