Eureka Orchideeën en Vogelbush, small zoo in the Netherlands
Eureka Orchideeën en Vogelbush is a small zoo in Oosterend on Texel housed in a converted greenhouse complex that combines tropical birds, orchids, and butterflies. The park holds over 40 animal species including raptors, songbirds, reptiles like tortoises and water monitors, and colorful tropical butterflies and moths in naturalistic enclosures.
The site began in 1994 as a garden center called Eureka near Oosterend, initially selling pots and plants to visitors. Over time birds, butterflies, and birds of prey were added, gradually transforming the center into a dedicated animal park.
The name connects orchids with a bird garden, reflecting the blend of botanical and zoological interests on the site. Visitors observe daily how staff care for the animals and tend the plants, creating a sense of dedication to living nature.
The site sits near Oosterend on Schorrenweg and is easy to reach by car or bike, with clearly posted opening hours and contact details for planning your visit. Enclosures are designed to be accessible and safe, with daily flying demonstrations of raptors in early afternoon running Tuesday through Sunday.
The site was taken over in 2016 by Martijn and Marielle, two professionals with deep animal expertise from prior work at Ecomare and falconry training respectively. The park participates in European breeding programs for endangered species and uses energy-efficient building technology to minimize its ecological footprint.
