Westerlaantoren, Office and residential tower in Scheepvaartkwartier, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The Westerlaantoren is an office and residential tower in the Scheepvaartkwartier featuring a facade of glazed ceramic tiles with white trim. The structure holds commercial spaces in its lower section and about 45 apartments in the upper floors, reaching approximately 75 meters high.
The tower originally functioned as the headquarters for the Vopak company before undergoing extensive renovation in 2009. During this major rebuild, two original floors were removed and five new levels were added, creating the building as it stands today.
The building combines office spaces below with residential apartments above, creating a place where work and living coexist in one structure. This mix of commercial and domestic functions shapes how people use the neighborhood throughout the day.
An underground parking facility beneath the adjacent park accommodates about 350 vehicles for office workers and residents. The building is accessible from multiple sides, and its location in the Scheepvaartkwartier makes exploring the surrounding area straightforward.
The renovation incorporated new balconies within a steel framework, each fitted with glass railings and wind barriers. These contemporary additions are visible from multiple angles and noticeably shape the tower's modern appearance.
