Rensenpark

Rensenpark is a park built on the grounds of the former Dierenpark Emmen zoo, featuring historic structures, gardens, and a tree avenue spanning hundreds of years old. The site merges restored elements from the zoo's past with contemporary green spaces, creating a blend of old and new functions.

The land beneath Rensenpark carries medieval origins, with archaeological evidence pointing to a bishop's court complex that included moats and fish ponds. The 19th century brought a zoo to the site, which eventually transformed into the park that exists today.

The Museum of Contemporary Tibetan Art occupies a former pavilion restaurant and represents the world's sole institution dedicated to modern Tibetan artistic expression. Visitors encounter works reflecting current artistic voices from that region, distinct from traditional representations.

The park is open and walkable throughout, with clear paths connecting different sections. Seating areas and dining options are scattered across the grounds, making it convenient to rest during a visit.

Former animal enclosures have been transformed into unexpected new spaces, including a drone racing track and multiple escape rooms housed in restored zoo structures. These repurposed facilities demonstrate how the old zoo site has been completely revitalized.
