Port of Breda, Port facility in central Breda, Netherlands
The port of Breda stretches along the Mark River with a 125-meter passenger pier offering direct access to the city center. Vessels can connect to electricity and water through the Aan-Uit network, while sanitary facilities and waste containers sit on the pier.
The original port area was filled in and converted to a parking lot between 1965 and 2007. It was later restored to its earlier water-based use and now serves boats and visitors once again.
The Spanjaardsgat, a historic water gate, remains part of this facility and links it to the city's canal network. The waterfront here serves as a gathering point where visitors and boat traffic naturally meet along the river.
The port is best reached on foot from the city center, which takes just a few minutes. The waterfront is well-developed and during warmer months visitors can enjoy the restaurants and terraces positioned above the lower quay.
The facility has a two-level structure where restaurants and terraces sit above the lower quay where boats dock. This unusual layout places dining directly overlooking the water operations below.
