Muziekpaviljoen, Music library in Media Park, Hilversum, Netherlands.
Muziekpaviljoen is a music library and broadcast facility in Media Park with a modernist design created by architect Piet Elling in the 1960s. The structure contains two wings that house sound archives and radio studios under one roof.
Built between 1962 and 1966, the facility was the first structure to rise in Media Park and originally held the music library of the Nederlandse Radio Unie. Its construction marked the beginning of what would become the Netherlands' major broadcasting center.
The building served as a production hub where many Dutch radio programs and music sessions were created in its recording studios. These spaces became central to how radio content was made during a formative period in Dutch broadcasting.
The building underwent comprehensive renovations from 2007 to 2012 that removed asbestos and restored original architectural features. When visiting, note that some areas may have limited public access due to its role as an active broadcast facility.
The building received municipal monument status in 2010 and is now recognized as an example of 1960s modernism in the Netherlands. This designation honors its role in shaping Dutch broadcasting and media production during an important cultural era.
