Ulriksbanen

Ulriksbanen is an aerial tramway that carries visitors 1120 meters upward to the summit of Mount Ulriken, which sits 643 meters above Bergen. The journey provides a direct connection from the city center to the peak, where a restaurant and viewing areas await arrivals.

The aerial tramway opened in 1961 and created a new link between the city and the mountain peak for the first time. This project was part of Bergen's development as a tourist destination in the years after World War II.

The restaurant at the summit serves Norwegian dishes prepared with local ingredients, allowing visitors to experience the region's food traditions while looking out over the city. The meals reflect what people here have eaten for generations and create a place where travelers connect with local life.

The cable cars hold about 51 people per journey and run throughout the day with departures every 10 to 15 minutes. It is best to visit early in the day to avoid crowding and to see the views in better light.

From the summit, visitors can explore several hiking paths that lead to neighboring mountains, including a marked trail to Mount Fløyen. This connection allows hikers to visit multiple peaks in a single outing and discover different views of Bergen.
