Ulriken, Mountain summit in Bergen, Norway
Ulriken is a mountain summit rising 643 meters above sea level and the highest of seven peaks circling the Bergen peninsula. The top can be reached by cable car with Norway's largest gondolas or by a steep hiking trail.
The name comes from the Old Norse word 'Alrekr' and became part of local geography during the Viking settlement period. The mountain has been integral to the region's identity for centuries.
The summit houses the Skyskraperen Restaurant, which incorporates Norwegian ingredients into its menu while offering views across the Bergen landscape.
The cable car provides a quick alternative to climbing, especially on bad weather days or when you want to save time. The hiking route is steeper and requires endurance, but both paths lead you to the viewpoints at the top.
On the mountain's slope sits the Food Forest initiative at Låndås, an experimental garden using natural ecosystem patterns. This project shows how edible plants can be grown in woodland formations, offering a surprising green space alongside the views.
