Description
Nykirken is a white stone church in the Nordnes district with a cross-shaped design and seating for about 750 people. The interior features tall wooden box pews with painted details and large windows that open views toward Vågen Bay.
History
The church was rebuilt multiple times after major fires in 1623, 1660, 1756, and 1800, showing remarkable resilience. During World War II, it sustained damage from a German ship explosion in 1944 but was restored again.

Children shape the church's interior through hand-painted icons and art installations, earning it the name Children's Cathedral. This participation makes the space a living expression of creativity and community connection.
