Ringebu Stave Church

The wooden church features a cruciform layout with a central tower, incorporating traditional Norwegian architectural elements and vertical posts supporting wall planks.

Construction of the current structure began in 1220, replacing an earlier 11th-century wooden post church that stood at the same location.

The altarpiece from the 1680s displays intricate carved acanthus leaf decorations, representing early examples of this artistic style in Gudbrandsdalen valley.

The church maintains regular summer visiting hours and accommodates 300 people, though access may be restricted during religious ceremonies.

Archaeological excavations in 1980 uncovered 900 medieval coins beneath the church floor, providing evidence of the structure's extensive history.
