Jarlsberg Manor, Heritage manor house in Tønsberg Municipality, Norway
Jarlsberg Manor is a manor house with grand columns and formal halls situated on a large estate near the shoreline. The building displays Empire-style architecture from the 18th century and features multiple levels with distinct functions for different purposes.
The current building was rebuilt after a 1699 fire by Gustav Wilhelm Wedel Jarlsberg, a Danish officer who made it the center of his holdings. The family shaped the estate over generations and connected it to Norwegian aristocratic tradition.
This residence was home to the Wedel-Jarlsberg family and continues to shape the region's cultural life through concerts and social events held in its elegant rooms.
The estate is surrounded by extensive green areas where visitors can walk on marked paths. Routes along the water and through wooded sections offer easy orientation for those exploring on foot.
Beneath the grounds lie remains from the Viking age that were discovered using radar technology. These findings suggest the location was inhabited and used long before the manor was built.
