Troll A, Offshore gas platform in North Sea, Norway
Troll A is an offshore gas platform in the North Sea off the coast of Norway, standing on four massive concrete legs. The structure reaches a total height of approximately 472 meters from the seabed to its top.
Construction of the facility began in the early 1990s and was completed in 1995, with Norwegian engineers developing new solutions for deep-water construction. The platform began operations shortly after and has been extracting gas from the Troll field ever since.
The platform received the Betongtavlen architectural award for its concrete structure design and engineering accomplishments in offshore construction.
The platform sits far out at sea and is not accessible to the public, as it is an active industrial facility. On clear days it can sometimes be seen from the Norwegian west coast.
In 2006 a concert took place deep underwater here when a singer performed inside one of the concrete leg bases. The event was documented as the deepest underwater concert ever held.
