Nærøysund Bridge, Suspension bridge in Nærøysund Municipality, Norway
Nærøysund Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans across the Nærøysundet strait, connecting the islands of Marøya and Inner-Vikna. The main span extends 325 meters, with a total length of 701 meters along its 17 individual spans.
Construction began in January 1978 and the bridge opened in October 1981 after several years of building work. It replaced the ferry service that previously connected the islands and marked a major shift in local transportation.
The bridge shapes the landscape and is a daily connection for residents living on the islands. It has changed how communities interact and support each other across the strait.
The road Fv770 runs across the bridge and provides constant access between the islands without interruption. The clearance beneath is 41 meters high, which allows larger vessels to pass through safely.
The construction employed innovative techniques that were new for Scandinavia at the time. When it opened, it was briefly recognized as one of the most advanced cable-stay structures of its era.
