Haukåsen Radar, Radar station on Haukåsen hill, Norway.
Haukåsen Radar is an air traffic monitoring installation housed inside a white dome on a hill near Oslo at an elevation of 357 meters. The facility uses its elevated location to track aircraft movements across eastern Norway.
The installation opened in 1964 as Norway's first civilian radar system, marking an important step in the nation's aviation technology. The original equipment is now preserved at the National Aviation Museum in Bodø.
The radar facility demonstrates Norway's early adoption of advanced aviation technology and commitment to establishing modern air traffic control systems.
The facility is not open to the public, but you can view the radar mechanism through a protective grate from beneath the dome. The white radome is visible from nearby paths around the hill.
The radar's strong electromagnetic emissions can interfere with GPS devices in the immediate area, causing them to become temporarily unreliable. This effect is a direct result of the system's operating power.
