Eidsberg Church, Gothic Revival church in Indre Østfold Municipality, Norway
Eidsberg Church is a stone building situated beside the Glomma river in Indre Østfold Municipality. The structure displays a cruciform layout with a carved figure of St. Olav positioned above the main entrance.
The original structure was built in 1201 in Romanesque style and underwent major rebuilding between 1880 and 1881 under architect Paul Due. This renovation significantly altered the building's appearance and transformed it into the Gothic Revival style seen today.
The interior holds a medieval baptismal font from the 1200s and a baroque altarpiece by Christopher Ridder showing the Crucifixion scene. These works reveal how the community's spiritual life developed across different historical periods.
The location sits alongside a county road and is easily reached by car. The area surrounding the building provides enough space to walk around and observe its exterior features.
Near the church at Lekum farm, Olaf Rye performed the first documented ski jump in recorded history on November 22, 1808. This moment made the location significant in the early development of winter sports.
